Augustus N Tupper (c.1816-1886) lived in Potsdam for the majority of his life. A prominent citizen, Tupper engaged in a wide variety of business activities ranging from work as a goldsmith and gunsmith to a wooden leg maker. He was Superintendent of the Potsdam Waters Works until stepping down in March 1879. He lived in various places around Potsdam throughout his life, including Main, Raymond, Elm, and Depot Streets. His store on the corner of Raymond and Market St was closed in 1864, though he continued business activities from his house and other locations. He is buried in Bayside Cemetery in an unmarked grave.
