Sanford and Morgan Store

In 1842 Joseph Horace Sanford purchased this property and constructed a building to house a dry goods store. During the  eighteen fifties,  his oldest son, William A Sanford  was the proprietor. In 1862 the store increased its inventory, and became Sanford and Morgan.  The pictured ad was from the June 04, 1862 Courier and Freeman. There were various name changes until 1874 when W.A. Sanford sold the enterprise to W.H. Walling.
